Smoke and monitors
I sadly have to live with 2 smokers who use the computer and have noticed that over time it causes the monitor to get fuzzy. Am i just imagineing it or is it real? If so are some monitors like lcd ones more resistant to smoke? thanks for any help.

Smoking does seem to leave a thin film on glass. You can really notice it on the insides of car windows owned by smokers.

that film is the tar and nicotine from the cigarette smoke.. just use some windex on it every now and again.. or tell them not to smoke at the 'puter if it is *your* 'puter..
Their code will be beautiful, even if their desks are buried in 3 feet of crap. - esr

Better than windex are those antistatic wipes that you can get in pretty much any puter/office store (and Wal-Mart, too).

Ya think the gloss on the monitor is bad. Do you have a case fan blowing air into the case?? Bet i know what your CPU fan looks like.....

Just make sure to spray the windex on a towel, instead of on the monitor. The liquid tends to wreak havoc on the circuitry!

Unfortunately, yes, but it was just a cheapy TV set. I really freaked when the volume went full blast, and it started scrolling thru the channels on it's own! (Not hard to fix, that time. A little industrial cleaning solvent, an air hose, and 3 days without a TV
)
I would hate to imagine all the different things my monitor would do.
