While on the linux machience ssh works fine if I connect to the internal ip that is ssh 127.0.0.1 as soon as I try with the external ip it dosent work.
Does anybody know how suse 9 sets up its default firewalls, I think that is what is causeing the problems.

How does your route looks like...Do you have the correct default gateway so you can find your way to the other box??...maybe someone already have said this...i didnt read all of it...

Oh, right andutt. That might be it. gambit, would you pass the output of "route -n"?
It's not the firewall. The output you passed earlier showed that no firewall is configured.
