My New Linux Machine
Alright, I just got finished setting up my new Linux machine! Well it's not really new...it's been in my closet for awhile...but it's the fastest thing in my house right now!
2.8ghz Pentium 4 HT
1.5 gigs of RAM
120 gig HDD
Nvidia GeForce 2 (old school, I know)
DVD+-RW/CD-RW
DVD-ROM
And an X-Inifinity Case
Running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS
Man that thing is fast to ;D

thats a pretty cool box!
just one thing: you could have saved on the memory and got a better vga cardAll Empires rise and fall. The Microsoft Empire has already risen, only one way to go now...

haha, well i actually bought none of it. I got the box with a gig memory from a relative though a bet, haha. I just through an extra 512 in it. I got the GeForce free from my friend, and it was a lot better than the 12 dollar card that was previously in the box.

Nice box. Though I prefer more RAM to a good graphics card
Besides, at least it's an Nvidia and not an ATI, hehe.

Haha, yes me too, I do more development than gaming...so Im usually running a LOT of resource hogs at a time.
and for the nvidia over ati statement...
AMEN!!

lol, my box is similar when it comes to parts re-use
whatever works stays there until it breaks down...
nvidia seems to be the best choice for linux. even older nvidia cards seem to out-performs some of ati's newer stuff.
unfortunately i'm stuck with a radeon 9250, i bought it just a few months before switching to linux

Yes, i've always leaned towards nvidia. And since that whole ordeal with ATI not opening open (check fsf.org if you dont know about that) i've definitly not even looked into their products.
I really want to put SLI into this machine and see what it can do =D
