But wassy, you can't mean that mandrake is running devfs? Isn't it still experimental? Also, in that case he couldn't have created a new (persistant) inode on it with mknod in that case, right?

Nope, ttyS1 is your COM2.
ttyS? is zero-based, while COM? is one-based.

Check with "ls -l /dev/ttyS0-". Are you sure that you didn't just hit 0- instead of just 0 when you created ttyS0?

Dolda: I got those too when doing my LFS system, I think it was an error with the MAKEDEV script or something, really weird.
