try emailing the owner of that website, he says he knows a lot about msn chat rooms he might be able to help someone (gaim/xchat/some one else) log in to the chat rooms from linux. If he would be willing to release his source code it might help a lot as well. Just ask nicely, he seems willing to share his experiances.

hey I emailed the owner and got this reply:
Vincula is a script, which relies on mIRC and the MSN Chat OCX.
Unfortunately, the programmer of mIRC has no plans to release mIRC for
Linux, so there is no Vincula for Linux. HOWEVER: I'm told that mIRC works
beautifully under Wine, which means that Vincula would work under Wine,
provided the MSN Chat OCX does also. If you can get the OCX to work with
Wine, then you're good to go.
On a side note, I wrote some C code based on some VB code I got from someone
that generates what used to be a proper reply to MSN Chat's GateKeeper Auth
challenge, but it no longer works. It hasn't worked since MSN Chat Control
4.5 was released. Too bad too, because I had compiled it into an mIRC DLL
and had Vincula use it instead of using the OCX, and it was quite a bit
faster.

okay, I asked in #gaim on irc.gimp.net and one of the maintainers (SeanEgan if I remember correctly) said that you can join an msn chat room if someone sends you an invite. check out gaim.sf.net for a nightly CVS snapshot (the latest release is out of date). Yeah, that OCX was what I was afraid of. I thought the author might have had some knowledge of the protocol or something. With the OCX layer being MS specific there isn't much we can do besides try gaim and see if it "just works" or if the code has some clues

hey
I actually tried to do that, and from what i can see i can only join into a chat with like a few people not officialy a msn chat room just one window with people off my msn contact list in it if "just like adding them into a convo unless i am doing something wrong, anyway according to xonyte i should be able to get msn chat to work with mirc running under wine, i got mirc to run but couldnt load the script vincula i have just got another reply off him and here what has been said so far :
You might want to do a $replace to be sure it catches all cases.

MSN chat ocx 4.5 under Linux
Hi there, msn chat is possible i think ...
After 3 years of development and trying hook Linux + Mac
on a msn chat server (yess, they still exist !! ) i'm proud
to let you know ( i hope this post will do anything ) that
we have succeed to enable Linux, Mac osX ( intel based only)
and backwards an win32 application that will connect
with our chat-united.com chatservice
go to Chat United [Chat Applicatie]
if your version of Linux is not available, run the WIN32 version under wine
have fun

b.t.w. you'll find us smart guys under the computer section
