    Splitting tarball based on size?

    Is there a process which would allow me to either split a tarball,
    1) during creation, or 2) after creation, based on size? A reason
    would be a large tarball archive that I want to be able to split to
    several tarballs that can be put onto DVDs. Is this possible?
