    Is irq_balancer needed on my dual-core AMD64?

I noticed that irq_balancer was listed as one of the services that failed to start when I boot my machine, and I was wondering if I actually need it. Is this something that is only really useful for genuinely multi-CPU machines, or will it help my dual core processor?

I've read that irq balancing can have a negative effect on performance. I'd say if it your system works fine without it, you don't need it

Here's a potentially interesting article I've run across, perhaps it can be of value?
