VMware player on XP and Linux appliance
I just install VMware player on my XP machine and use one of the linux appliance. It works like a charm. I just wonder if i create a file in the linux environment, says a.txt, will i be able to view the a.txt from the XP machine.

Not unless you save it to a commonly accessible place, like on an sd card or a separate HDD formatted with something like FAT32.

I'm not sure about VMware player. But in VMware Workstation, you can create shared folders in between your host machine and the virtual machine. I don't see why this functionality would be excluded from VMware Player, try looking in /mnt/hgfs in the virtual machine for any shared folders between the two. That's usually where mine are located (if you have shared folder support enabled).
