I just got a copy of " Running Linux " an O'Reilly Publication. I have used it in the past and it's dated to 2003. I was wondering if the System Startup and Initialization of today's Linux Distros is basically the same?

At least as I see it, I would say pretty much yes, it is the same, except maybe some techinques to improve boot time and the switch from lilo to grub bootloader. He, I don't even remember when grub became mainstream . :)
