Display gone
Hi happy Linux users, please help make me a happy user too, because:-
I can no longer get to kde?
I am using mandrakelinux 2.4.19-16mdk on an i686
When I start my computer the choices via lilo are available and when I boot using the floppy likewise things get started.
However, instead of firing up kde I only get a command prompt ( without any shell ).
Signing in this way as root and trying to fire up a program I get:
Cannot open display
Using the command kde I get
no screens found.
When resetting and using fsck I get before the cursor stops moving, though still flashing, I see the last four lines as :-
Mounting file system
kmod : failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-8, errno = 2
mount : error 6 mounting ext3 flags Freeing unused kernel memory : 136k freed
Kernel panic : No init found. Try passing init = option to kernel
The cursor is left flashing one space in
As a newbie to this I need step by step to find/fix the problem.
One other thought to include here as a maybe, - At times the screen starts flashing though I am able to still enter commands.
Any suggestions anyone?
This is like windows???? hopefully not.
As always - prepared to T.I.N.K.E.R
