dsl
hey i am using a dell d610 laptop and i am trying to boot up damn small linux.
on a live cd and it just goes to a black screen when i try to boot. my first thought was that it was a problem with the resolution because i had an exact same problem before and the vga option was the solution. but it makes no difference even text mode does not work. has anybody else had this problem and found the solution.

does it show you any error messages at all??

As asked by thesimplecreator, please post about any errors thrown.
Also, have you tried any of the additional boot options?

I know that I had similar issues with DSL on my D630 laptop. I tested a number of distributions with Unetbootin, making liveUSB thumb drives, and DSL failed the test. I've been pretty happy with Ubuntu 9.04 on it, however. It handles all my wireless (including bluetooth) stuff just fine, and manages the battery power as well. If you are concerned about the "weight" of it, then you can install Xubuntu, which uses the XFCE desktop, taking less system resources in the process.
