Gentoooo

Hey.
I'm thinking about poking about with Gentoo for a bit, if I am able to download the .iso (I have a modem only and work has a proxy that kills).
So, I was reading about portage and how you need up sync portage before you really do anything with it, which is fair enough.
I was wondering if anyone knew really how feasible it is to do this over a modem?
I just don't want to go to the effort and spend time compiling like a mad thing and get to a stage where I can't use it reasonably anyhow?

Syncing is pheasible over a modem. I have to do this at home, but where you'll run into problems is when you have to dl all the packages. I've kept my Gentoo system updated on 56K by using emerge -f when i'm asleep and actually compiling later.

if you have a proxy blocking you go to google and type in "filter faker"
it will be the first site then hit "translate this page" and voila you can now access most sites!
