hi can i host many web sites( like each user has their own site: http://myserver.net/user1,http://myserver.net/user2 ( i use Red Hat 8.0, and with No-IP software update IP) .But i use DSL connection with dynamic IP..Any one have ideas. Is it possible? It has to be a static IP?????.Thank you
As long as DNS is updated along with your IP
address, you can host whatever you desire to.
There are dynamic DNS services available. I
believe they usually assign you a hostname in
their domain. Theoretically, you could use a
CNAME in DNS to point a domain name at the
hostname they provide. Has anyone tried this?
Technically you can assign your own ip if your isp uses dhcp. So if you want a static ip, just assign yourself one.
Does PPPoE allow the ISP to make you change IPs?

What do you want more specifically? Do you want to be able to host different second level domain names (eg. www.site1.com and www.site2.com), different subdomains (eg. user1.site.com and user2.site.com) or different subdirectories in the same domains (eg. www.site.com/user1 and www.site.com/user2)?
To add some cons and pros:
Different second level domains is the most expensive alternative, since you'll have to buy each domain name.
Different subdomains is the most difficult to set up, since you'll have to have your own DNS server.
Different subdirectories is both the cheapest and easiest alternative, but maybe the least professional-looking one.
actually no-ip.org will do a http redirect so you can really cheat
for example
majorwoo.dynup.net will link to my IP, but since my ISP blocks port 80 i have a http server on 1024, which i could link to by using no-ip's http redirect so
http://majorwoo.hopto.org woudl take you there (not it doesnt currently because a fried loaned me some webspace, but i have done it before)
a plus is its totally free
downside is its two layers of redirection, first your browser goes to hopto.org where it is sent to dynup.net who finally sends it to my IP
