How can I reduce number of ttys in /dev -- or is it worth the trouble?
I'm running Arch Linux at the moment, but I've seen this same thing in every other distro. If I list the device files in /dev, I see 63  ttys and vc's listed. I know that vc's are virtual consoles, I think they're the same as ttys, but I don't know.
My questions are:
1) Can I set a lower number of ttys to have available? Even if it involves recompiling the kernel itself, just tell me where the setting is. :D
2) If so, how?
3) Does having so many use more memory?
EDIT: I'm not asking the same question as here. That tells the kernel to not start getty (or similar programs) to manage a tty; I'm looking to not have the tty exist at all.
