Looking for a distro suitable for an old Toshiba Laptop.
Needed for:
word processing, presentation, spreadsheet (Preferably OpenOffice)
internet and email (Mozilla Suite will do or Firefox and Thunderbird)
Specs are as follows:
Toshiba Satellite Pro CDX
133 MHz Pentium MMX
16 MB Memory
1.3 GB Harddisk
Any help greatly appriciated
debian works really well when settings the system to minimal configuration... during install choose the minimal package, on install the package you need after that... I ran this setup on a OLD pentium1 with 64Mb Ram.
I guess it should run ok on your setup too
Ubuntu is an excellent Debian based distro. It's small and fast and more uptodate then regular Debian.

the most important thing is not to run KDE or GNOME, but rather a lighter de such as FVWM or blackbox

on the machine, I've given the specs for, following distros didn't work:
Beatrix,
Ubuntu,
Damn Small Linux
Debian 3.0 seems to work for me, however I'll have to reinstall with the minimums and see how it suits my needs
Vector Linux is a slackware derivative that is optimized for older laptops, runs really well, you should give it a try :D
