hi!
I have a tricky problem in booting linux. I have 2 pcs with different hdd-controllers. My linux is on a removeable hdd (its a cf-card). Because of different controllers the hdd-devices (dev/hdX) appear differently (lets say PC1: hda and PC2: hdc).
Normally I need to change the kernel/root-setting in lilo and the fstab settings.
Is it possible to make a lilo/grub/kernel-configuration to use one hdd in both systems??

Sure it is - just make a second kernel entry in lilo.conf or grub.conf so that you have one pointing to each root. make sure that lilo/grub does not time out so that you may select the proper kernel. if you wanted it to boot without user interaction, then you could configure it to fall back to the 2nd one if the first fails maybe (in grub at least, and not even sure if that would work).
But in any case, you'll need to update your /etc/fstab to use UUIDs instead of device names.
