Rebuild system won't mount some of the SCSI disks

I will spare you to horror story of my failed kerneal upgrade from 2.2.18 to 2.4.18. End result I totally had to rebuild my server with new drives and am now trying to mount the old drives to get data off.

The old drives are SCSI along with the new ones. The controller mounts the new SCSI drives fine and fdisk can see the old disks and their partitions but when I try to mount them i get the following error. Both new and old drive are the exact same models and on the same controller.

mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device

What must I do to be able to retrive the info off these drive?

It would seem that the SCSI drivers aren't loaded. Did you compile them along with your new 2.4.18 kernel?
