I am going to set up a home server:
I have a bunch of spare harware lying around :D so have narrowed it down to 2 potential setups. Asus p2b pII 400 or Asus p2b-ds pII 350x2. I sure both would be adequite setups, but wanted to ask if the SMP setup really takes advantage of these type of server functions, I'm not too familiar with SMP systems and how they are utilized in general.......so any advice or info would be great.
If this server is going to be busy, then you should certainly go for the SMP setup. However, if it is likely that two processes are seldomly going to run simultaneously, then there isn't really much use for it. A single process cannot run on two CPUs simultaneously anyway. Note that threads count as processes, though.
