Partition table entries are not in disk order
What I have to do for restoring the Grub? I tried with Super Grub Disk but it don't find any OS. I'm going out of my mind.
From Ubuntu, I formatted the first partition, where there was the boot loader, but when I try to install it with the command
from the grub console it gives me this error.Quote:
grub> setup (hd0,0)
Please, help me :(Quote:
Error 12: Invalid device requested
In your last post, you indicate you are using Ubuntu. Which version? 11.04 the latest? Ubuntu has been using Grub2 since version 9.10, so if you have a version newer than 9.10 the setup command you posted will not work. The commands are different for Grub2. Are you now using the Ubuntu CD? When you ran the dd command suggested above, what was the output? Did you get any error/warning messages or did it seem to work?
In your post #10 above, you say xp is not booting. You'll need to give more specifics as to exactly what happens from the point of putting the CD in the drive and rebooting with it. Do you get a black screen? The windows setup? Error/warning messages?
Also, you already have four primary partitions according to your fdisk output above with a windows partition on sda3. What is that? Data partition? Where are you trying to install xp?
I'm running the last Ubuntu CD live, the 11.04. Can you please say to me what is the right command to run?
When I gave the dd command I didn't received any errors, but I don't remember the output.
I have 4 primary partitions but one (the ntfs one) is for windows. I tried to format it before to install windows because the boot didn't start.
thanks for your support.
Maybe I have to recreate the partitions table, but is this gonna erase all my entire disk?
I'm not really sure what your intentions are. You have a windows partition (sda3). What is that? Is it a data partition? Is that where you previously had windows installed?
Again, what exactly happens when you put your xp CD in the drive and boot from that?
