Is it possible to mount ANY linux ISO to a thumb drive (I have a four gig thumb drive), and I was wondering if I could use it as an install "CD". It's mainly because I have always hated media and would prefer to use my thumb drive.

Not all distros are configured to boot from USB as the initrd will need to contain USB drivers. It is becoming more frequent that Distros include this but it is not universal. You may be able to get any distro you want to boot from USB with some work but to my knowledge it won't be a case of just dropping on or extracting the ISO image.
There are a few boot managers for other purposes such as SmartBootManager but I'm not sure that they are capable of booting this way.
