webserver

A friend and I plan to use mandrake or redhat 9 to run a web server for a site we're working on. Questions:

1)Is it even possible?
2)What would we need, besides the OS's?
3)Anything else I should know about doing this?

1) Yes.
2) some web server, like Apache. (included in RedHat, and probalby in Mandrake too (haven't tried mandrake myself yet))
3) A lot of things, but the apache manual should be agood starting point. :)

word .. there is apache on mandrake install disks.. compile it and edit httpd.conf .. ithere are many HOWTO's and FAQ's about apache install and configuration :)

i'm also new to webserver world.. but i have read a LOT of faq's so if u need help just ask here:)

Remeber to lock up the system if you shall having it facing the internet. Disable all unessary services and maybe use grsecurity or at least som iptables chains..

can you post a list of those faqs, and where you read them, sa1nt?
