    Problems mounting Android

    Hey everyone.
I am having problems mounting my Android phone from Linux. When I plug the phone in, it charges the battery ok but when I select "mount" option the phone acts like it has mounted and the option changes to "unmount". Here is where it gets weird, the phone no longer shows up in the output of fdisk -l, df -h or any other commands. As a matter of fact, when I tried the fdisk command it spits out the SATA drive info but then it just sits there doing nothing for about 2 minutes or until I unplug the phone. Same thing on boot, if the phone is plugged in when I boot my machine, it gets stuck on detecting USB devices for a minute or two and then it continues.
I'm using Gentoo-3.0 kernel and this used to work about 3 kernel updates ago. Should I start with older kernels or maybe the problem is something different?

Not sure where to start so I am posting my dmesg output, hopefully someone has some insight or leads for me.

After doing some more digging, I'm starting to think this is an EHCI problem and not Android or Linux. Maybe I should try UHCI?

    Well dang!
Now it won't mount period. I don't even get the pop-up asking me if I want to mount the device on my wifes Win7 machine. Guess I will try a new cable.

Mike, I don't know the first thing about these phones, but has an update come through for it?
And can you mount it now on any computer? Even as a storage device?

    Hi Jay!
Yes, last night I was able to mount it with my wifes laptop (Win7) and run disk check and defrag...it fixed a couple of errors. The only way I was able to mount the SD card from my phone is to use a micro SD card adapter to plug it into my wifes machine. Can't mount it as USB device anymore. I'm recompiling my kernel now to disable EHCI, hopefully UHCI or OHCI will work in it's place.

    Okay!
After recompiling my kernel to remove EHCI support and rebooting to my new kernel, it seems to be working now. I can mount the device, copy and delete files. Hopefully it will keep working and not need another reboot.
    *Fingers crossed*

    Does Win7 use EHCI also?

For reference, I am running Debian with a custom built 2.6.39 kernel (because the staging driver for my rt3070 was taken out in 3.0 and the in-kernel driver sucks) and I haven't had a problem with mounting either my phone or the sdcard. I will check dmesg when I plug it in again to help.

I think this problem has been solved by removing EHCI and just using OHCI or UHCI. I'm still able to connect, read, write and all is well.

This thread has been solved again.
Connecting the device directly to the USB port instead of to an adapter. I'm able to re-install EHCI into my kernel because my other devices need EHCI.
