How close are we to a unix phone ? (not android)
I would like a unix phone.
That is, I would like a full (possibly GNU) suite of phone utilities that would give me the power of a unix OS.
echo 2125551212 | /usr/bin/dialer
Or perhaps call restricting with iptables rules. You get the idea.
I don't want a phone with a linux based OS on it that is built to run a consumer GUI.
Instead, I want a (small) general purpose computer that just happens to also have a baseband device and a SIM card in it. And although I would use the GUI a lot, I would have the option to control EVERYTHING from the command line, using unix style scripting and tools.
I don't think this exists ... but are any groups/projects even working toward it ?
