What exactly are you looking for? You can compile in debugging messages under Kernel Hacking.

Well, if anything, there is the kernel debug patch, which you can use to debug the kernel in GDB on a remote machine over a serial cable. I think it's called kdebug or something like that, but I don't remember the exact name, unfortunately. Rest assured it exists and is popularly used, though.
