Linux Router/Firewall

hello all

i hope i put this in the correct spot.

i am looking to set up a linux box that will work as my router/firewall.

what i would like is some advise on the distro to use.

i am looking into using smoothwall.

would you use that one or a different one and maybe some advise as to why?

I recommend you use SmoothWall because of the configuration and it gets the job done.

Whay don't you just use IPCOP?

looks good. one question, that would be my router as well right?

and after i get it installed would i connect the internet to it and also my switch?

But you can't used this box as a normal Linux client with X, KDE, et al. If that's what you want you have to use a 'normal' linux distro.

that is all i want this box to do is function as my router/firewall.

another thing will i be able to see where people are going on the internet with IPCop?

Frankly I don't know. When I evaluated ipcop I had no requirement for session connection tracking/logging.
