    I loaded Ubuntu 7.04 and no more problem.

    go figure...

    anyway...the old intel box is finally offline and powered down.

    The issue is OS related. Where exactly it is I have no idea. I loaded Ubuntu and no more problem. Just to make sure I reloaded it again and the problem was nonexistent.

    I still think this is a bug in the OS.
