    Exclamation Netbios name too long!!

    Hello Everybody...

My windows Netbios name is too long, so I can't add my Linux to my windows network.

Is there a way to change my name or add my Linux to the network, without changing the whole configuration.
My Linux supposed to be my backup server for my Windows 2008 server.

    Need help!!

Can you post any additional info about your problem? What error messages you get, etc. Are you trying to add your linux box to W2K8 AD or just network? How long is your linux box name?

this is the error i get..

Binding to domain with command /usr/bin/net join -U Administrator ..

Our netbios name can be at most 15 chars long, "SHAREPOINT.LOCALS" is 17 chars long

Well nothing to do here - 15 chars is a limitation. Guess you'll have to do it with 15 chars. Also you might be interested in this post - w2k8 AD structure is slightly different from previous versions... And I myself still can't add w2k8 server to samba domain.
