Connectivity without using any ip address
if 2 PCs are connected thru a hub or a switch for file sharing or data transfer, is it possible to have such connectivity without using any ip address ?

The dos world used to use "netbui" but I think they dropped support for it in the 2000 rollout. All those required was a unique-by-workgroup machine name.
