Connecting to modem.
I have an Acer Apire 1 that was connected to the internet via a broadband modem originally from NTL. Until earlier today I was connected through a router but now my daughter has taken the router away and I can't get my netbook to connect to the modem direct via the ethernet cable. Can anyone give me step by step instructions to get connected please? It says in the manual to just connect the ethernet cable and thats all it says. I have tried several times by going through the connection manager but keep getting nowhere. I would be grateful for any help.

Power off the modem. They usually hold the last MAC address that was connected to them. Wait 5 minutes. Plug in your network cable and turn on the modem again.
