How do I use IRC Chat?

I never use IRC Chat and I like to use could few of explain me please how to us it.
After all I use Suse11.1 .

Back when I thought I'd like to use IRC, I used the following IRC Help Site for getting started:

Basically, you'll need an IRC client and an internet connection and you should be good to go except for learning a bit of etiquette, and perhaps a few commands that will come in handy.

i will add something else to what ozar said... also some times you will need to have your firewall enable on your computer to access certain ports.

there are different type of IRC servers that you could connect to. i guess it just depends which channels you would like to access.
