    the question is what do you want to do by connecting the two linux boxes.

    1. Share files???
    2. Share Internet???
    3. Try out web server????
    etc
    etc

    do you want to run an ftp server or share your internet connection?to start i would suggest to edit /etc/hosts with the machine names for both pcs and ping one to another.if it works you have set-up your basic home network.then you should run services (ftp etc)...
