From linux i didnt think you could send direct to screen names?

I always thought, as you are not using AOL software you would need to use the full email address, eg, screenname@aol.co.uk or screenname@aol.com

If you try to send to just the screen name, it will most likely look for a users mail box or alias on the localhost.

I may be wrong, i must say i have never tried sending mail to aol screen names.

If you are gettting a message bounce back, post that up here with the full mail headers, that should help with diagnosis.

In addition to what j said, are you using the AOL java web client, Trillian or the software from thier CD for your AOL messages? And is it AOL IM or regular AOL e-mail that giving you problems?
