Hi,
I want to resolve the problem myself so my boss will not have any doubt about my knowledge of Linux. So how to know the IP address of the computer , or how to assign it an IP address ?

Maybe I am picky, but:
- You want to solve it yourself, but ask for a solution here? (Not discouraging you, just cant follow that logic
)
- linux knowledge does not stop at setting an IP
Anyway, ip, ifconfig and route are your friends for information gathering and adhoc configuration.
For reboot safe configuration have a look at NetworkManager (Desktop)Code:man ip man ifconfig man route
or (on redhat style machines) in /etc/sysconfig/network-scriptsYou must always face the curtain with a bow.
