    Hello and Welcome.
I've moved your post to it's own thread. The thread you posted in was well over 2 years old and it's better to start your own thread anyway. In order for us to help you, you need to tell us what kind of hardware you have. Is this a Wireless device or Wired Ethernet connection? Maybe Dial up modem? Are you using Ubuntu or something else, which version? Have you already attempted to connect? Did you get any errors or messages?
If it's Wireless, then start here.
If it's Ethernet or Modem, use the lspci command and post your results back here.
    sudo lspci
I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.
All new users please read this.** Forum FAQS. ** Adopt an unanswered post.

I'd rather be lost at the lake than found at home.
