From anything that I've ever read, iPhones don't have any type of support for physical net connections.

I know that apple doesn`t support but i think i could set an ip number for usb connections under Ubuntu linux. I had a hp ipaq handheld device and i was able to give ip number and with portforward i could able to connect internet. But i don't know if it's possible with iphone! Does linux Kernel recognizes iphone usb cable?

    Thanks.

Yes. In fact, quite a few folks sync there iPhones and music lists with programs such as Audacity, so the cable recognition shouldn't be an issue.
