    ping output confusing


    hi everybody,

    I have created two interface eth4.2 with the ip 192.168.1.4 and interface eth5.2 with the ip 192.168.1.5

    if I ping using the command
    #ping -I eth4.2 192.168.1.5

    I get destination host unreachable

    but if I ping using this
    #ping -I 192.168.1.4 192.168.1.5

    I get the reply

    can anybody explain this behavior please ?

    Yeah, most likely SPANTREE is at work and see 2 routes to your host on the same network and is blocking the .4 interface.
