How to install a sFTP certificate?

For my work we were given an sftp certificate that was created by one of our partners. Most of the time we partners connect to our ftp or sftp. My question is how to I install this certificate that was given to us. We do connect to other sftp server but I think those ones are "self assigned certificates" where when we connect for the first time we just have to accept it. Oh yeah, this is kinda urgent.

Awesome, I will check that out and see if that works. If its a X.509 would the extension be .509?

No, but it probably is X.509. If the certificate was issued by Thawte I think it has the extension .crt.

.cer and .crt files are interchangeable, so go ahead.
