How to directly access ISP server

    Hi all,

    Ubuntu 12.04.3

I need to connect my computer direct to the cable modem without via the router provided by ISP

I have the user name and password provided by ISP. Please advise how to config /etc/ppp/peers/provider. Any other files I need to configure as well?

    Thanks

    Rgds

You need to contact your ISP for instructions how to directly connect via the modem. My question is why do you need to do this?
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!

    Thanks for your advice.

I already sorted out. The interface is pppoe. After installing pppoeconf I can now connect ISP directly via the cable modem without router.

My question is why do you need to do this?
I'm trying building a virtual router. I'll switch to Fibre Optic Network on early April. I only have 2 PCs each running about 10 vms. I'm trying to build a virtual router on a VM of VirtualBox. I expect keeping the Host clean.

I'm now testing pfSense installed on a VM and trying to sort out how to make the virtual NIC to connect ISP.
