    File Sharing - Fedora, OSX, and Win2K

    Hi folks,

    I am setting up a small home network of three computers:

    1. iMac, OSX
    2. PC, Win2K
    3. PC, Fedora Core 3

    All three computers are networked via a Netgear router. I want to establish file sharing between all 3 computers.

    I have installed and configured (to the best of my novice ability) Samba on the Fedora computer.

    Currently all 3 computers can see each other in their respective network browsers.

    The iMac and the Windows box can browse each others files. The Fedora box can browse files on the Windows box.

    I can't browse files on the Fedora box using either the iMac or the Windows box.

    When I try to browse files on the Fedora box using the Mac i receive the message "The alias could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found."

    When I try to browse files on the Fedora box using the Windows machine, I am prompted for an ID and Password. However, neither the Windows ID/PW, nor the Fedora ID/PW will gain entry.

    On the Fedora Box, I can browse files on the Windows box only when signed in as "Root." When I am signed in as "user" I am prompted that I do not have permissions.

    When I attempt to browse the Mac using the Fedora box, I seem to be able to connect, but I can't see any files, just an empty window with zero items.

    My questions are:

    1. How to browse the Fedora box from the Windows and Mac boxes?

    2. How to browse the Windows box when signed in as "user" on the Fedora box?

    3. How to browse the Mac box from the Fedora box? ie. seeing more than an empty window with no items in it.

    Sorry that this is long and detailed, but anyhelp is appreciated. I can provide the smb.conf file for Samba, if that is helpful, as well as any configuration files or info from the Mac and Windows boxes.

    Thanks,
    Jason

    I'm no expert on Samba, but I believe from reading somware that both ID/PW must be the same in Linux and in Windows, you mighjty try that;

    correct me if I'm wrong;

    The username and password with "administrator" privileges on the Windows box are the same as the user's username and password on the Fedora box.

    I don't have a user called Root on the Windows box. Should that matter?

    Incidentally, over the past few days, I've found when I try to browse the network on the Windows box, I now only see the iMac. I don't see the Fedora box anymore. I do see the icon for "Computers Near Me," and when I double click on that I get the error message "Workgroup is not accessible. The network name cannot be found."
