Well, if your using a 56k dial-up modem, then the difference you will see will hardly be noticed, you get what your given.

Same applies to broadband really, as far as I know there is no amazing solution to speed up the internet, there are too many computers involved for changes on one to maek any difference.

But you could try using firefox as your browser and looking at this post for speeding it up a little : http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/topic-33153.html

and for downloading use a program like prozilla or prozGUI to download larger files quicker.
