2Wire Homeportal DSL Modem - Fedora Core 3
I'm running a dual boot machine with Windows XP and Fedora Core 3.
I recently got a 2wire Homeportal dsl modem (www.2wire.com) through
sbc. It works on both Windows and linux, however the speed is much slower on linux. If I enter in a web address in a browser, there's alot of hang time where the browser says " Looking up whatever.com" , then it quickly loads the page. On windows, the connection is blazingly fast. The difference is something like 300kps vs 1800kps and varies alot on linux.
The modem is was configured by going the the homepage http://homeportal.com/setup and it was setup with dhcp and pppoe, most of the configuration is done for you my using the modem's "configuration wizard". Other than that, I just used the network configuration tool in fedora to add my ethernet card.
This isn't a fedora specific problem, had the same problem with ubuntu.
Thanks,
spector

This sounds more like you having some kind of DNS setup problem, rather than an IP throughput problem.
Just to make sure, have you controlled that you have exactly the same settings for your NIC's in Linux as you have when setup in Windows?
I.e. NIC speed, NIC duplex.
For a quick check of your DNS config, do a
should return something like thisCode:cat /etc/resolv
Code:search <your-domain.whatever> nameserver <your-name-server-ip>
