From Linux how connect to LAN web page I have?

I have a Linux server I named "small" I have a blog I type every day on it. I made it's index.html page have links on it and one is to my blog that is stored on it so I can just go there and click that on.

On Windows XP all I have to do is type in the address bar is small and it goes there. Or type http://small , or //small . Or I can get to it's files on XP by typing \\small

But when I am using Firefox on Linux on my Laptop that has Fedora on it. I can type in http://small or just small and it will not go there.

I found out I can type smb://small and it gets to it's files same as on XP if I type \\small but how do I get to it's web page on a Linux browser? I did apache://small just guessing because smb is like samba to apache it don't work.

O yes. I all so did http://IP_of_small. IP_of_small is it's IP address. But that don't work. I all so just tryed it's IP alone. Still don't work.

I just don't know what words to sercher for to find this out. I hope some one can help.

have you tried adding in the port for the http?

sort of if you want to use ftp, you could go like "ftp://userass@small:21"
    instead, use something like "http://small:80"

Sadly, I do not know the port number for http at this moment, but I believe it might be 80. It shouldn't be too hard to find on your own though.

http://small:80 just goes to http://www.sba.gov/ I don't have ftp working on it so I can't test that out. I can ssh to it from a terminal and go to it by click "Computer" and "network" but only to it's files not it's webpage.

I even edit /etc/hosts to add in it's IP and name. It mested it up bad so I could not even get to it's files. I edit /etc/hosts back the way it was and I can get to it's files again. But still not it's web page.

I just found this out. I have another Fedora system with a webpage on it to. I can get to it using it's IP address like this:

http://192.168.101.10/ but if I change it to http://192.168.101.106 it comes back with "The connection was refused when attempting to contact 192.168.101.106."

192.168.101.106 is small's IP address. I am sure of this because I can ping it and when I ssh to it and do a ifconfig it show this address.

It works from windows but not from this Laptop Fedora core 3 Linux.

I can go on a windows XP and type in small it goes that and changes the address bar to http://small/ I just did this right now to make sure I could still get to it.

the old lynx 192.168.101.106 don't work and I install another broswer that don't work.

What I am thinking now is it's some seting in the Fedora Linux small box now. Any one know why it would let windows get to it's web page but not linux? There must be some setting I guess. Were would I look?

I just found out what was wrong.

Wow I was all day working on this.

I had it's IP wrong! It's IP is 192.168.101.112 the lap top I was on IP is 192.168.101.106 Now I can get to it's web page with http://192.168.101.112 I still can't with just http://small. I guess I have to add that to the /etc/hosts file now to just type in http://small.

There I just did that added a line to /etc/hosts like this "192.168.101.112 small" after about 3 minutes waiting I could just type in http://small and it goes there.

Looks like no problum now. It was my fault not knowing the IP address good. It's set up for DHCP so if I take it some other place. That's why I named it small becuase it is small. About 9 by 8 by 4 inch. in size. I put it together my self.
