I am currently running a small home server for my home-made distro <plug>jedilinux</plug>:P
I have Cerberus FTP Server Running on the Windows XP box (server) and I have a share (//andy/jedilinux) containing all of the project code mounted as /mnt/server on my Laptop, which is running an Rsync Server.
The problem is that the share will seemingly time out, that is, my linux box will 'lose contact' with it, and the only way to fix it is to umount and remount. Here's a typical session:
Code:
smbmount //andy/jedilinux /mnt/server -o Lakerdonald
>Password:
rsync --daemon --no-detach --config="/etc/rsyncd.conf"
...
...
cd /mnt/server
when I do that, it will spit out some random error message, which is usually along the lines of read/write error. Also, any rsyncs that I am running will return an "error in rsync protocol". I will then run:
Code:
umount -fl /mnt/server
smbmount //andy/jedilinux /mnt/server -o Lakerdonald
...
...
and it will work for another 20 minutes-2 hours (depending on whether or not it's a tuesday) until I have to remount. Is there some nugget in the Samba manpage which I'm missing that deals with timeouts?
Thanks,
-lakerdonald
