    cannot connect using cable modem, lan, static ip


    im new to linux, and i cant seem to figure out how to connect linux (linspire) to the internet.
    im using a cable modem connected directly to my computer (lan) with static ip adress and dns servers... i entered all setting exactly like on winnnndows, but it still doesnt work.

    anyone know what could be wrong?

    You have a STATIC ip address with cable? Are you sure about that? I would go into the ethernet configuration and change to " Automatically obtain ip address", and see if that helps. Also, you may want to shut your modem down for about 2 minutes, restart your machine and turn the cable modem back on.
