So close but still so far
I've noticed in this forum that there's a few posts about Mandrake 10.1 and the Speedtouch modem. I am in the same pool as those guys.
I've managed to install installed the correct source code and firmware, gone through all the setup and get so close, but this happens:
[matt@localhost speedtouch-1.3]$ speedtouch-start
You must launch this script with root privileges.
Enter root password.
Password:
Uploading Speedtouch firmware ...
Starting ADSL connection...
Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
PPPoATM plugin_init
PPPoATM setdevname - remove unwanted options
PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS:0.56
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> 0.56
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Connection terminated.
connect(0.56): Address already in use
[matt@localhost speedtouch-1.3]$
I well that i'm really close to solving the problem, does anyone know what may be causing this error, as i'm certain it's got the correct username/password/VP[0]/VC[38].
Any help much appreciated

I've run speedtouch-start several times and i keeps checking the channels, but has failed each and every time.
Is a channel like a port? Should i just keep on running speedtouch-start until it finds the correct channel?
Any help much appreciated and needed.

1 step forwards 2 back
I turned my pc off and then came back after a while. Thought that i'd keep running speedtouch-start and 'search' some more channels. But when i did speedtouch-start this time i got:
[matt@localhost speedtouch]$ speedtouch-start
You must launch this script with root privileges. Enter root password.
Password:
Uploading Speedtouch firmware ...
[matt@localhost speedtouch]$
I get this consistantly now, I thought that maybe it'd connected with saying so, so I tried to browse the internet with Mozilla, it just said something like website not availible.
Please help

Have you tried using this bit of software to connect with your Speedtouch modem. Unless of course that is what you are using:
http://www.230volts.co.uk/~mbaldwin/...06-2004.tar.gz
I'm assuming you know how to un-tar this, if not then just post and I will be happy to guide you though. Once in run:
# sh speedtouchconf.shThe biggest security threat is the user.
