hey i have a dwl g122 usb adapter also and i spent along time yesterday trying to get it to work in fedora. thing is, you need ndiswrapper to use the driver for it because th only one that will work is the windows driver... it was a pain and i never go tit to work because i needed some kernel sources that i didnt have. i never got it working. and as someone told me. 'long story short is wireless on linux sucks right now' im not too sure about getting it on a live cd though. if you had knoppix you might beable to because i know it has some wireless stuff that worked on one of my other computers without me even having to install anything. but i think i have the same usb adapter as you and it sucks with linux. i never got mine to work.
