connect via lan but not wan

I am running Suse 93. there is an ethernet card and I just added a Merlin aircard. the air card dialed successfully and got a good WAN ip. but when I disconnect the lan cable and try to access the internet using the aircard alone, nothing comes back. I can not even ping anything. is there something you have to do explicitly to make the os stop trying the lan connection and go to the aircard connection?

if you're using kde, try using the KInternet manager and selecting the device used to connect to the internet from its menu.
Life is complex, it has a real part and an imaginary part.
