Can get online in terminal, but not in other apps (e.g. Firefox, GAIM)
I just installed Ubuntu 5.04, and am able to get online through a terminal, as a non-root user. DNS is working, all is good, but I can't get online through Firefox or GAIM -- I can't even communicate with my router through a browser. My connection seems completely live and functional through a terminal, and completely dead through any other app. I can't connect to websites by IP address or DNS name, when using a browser, but can ping them by either in a terminal. Any clues?
Thanks for any help.
[EDIT: I just rebooted a third time, and everything works. Thanks for looking.]

there is some big differeneces between pinging and surfing. try 'links' (the text-based web-browser) if it hasn't the problem, you can think about your X. else maybe your firewall closes the ports.
