    AHHHHH!!!!!!! :shoots self:

Ok, well I have installed the NIC and configured it, I have replaced my eth cable with another one I use on my BSD box so I know it works, I have used the new cable on both the onboard network and the 3Com card, I have tried everything. You know what the output is? Not a thing. I laugh because I am losing sanity.

I now hold a MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 disc in my hands, and if this fails I will chuck my box out my window I swear on John Lennon's death.

This sounds very similar to a problem I had just last week. We took one box off line, put in a new one which was set for DHCP, and the router assigned it the same ip as another computer in another room. This made my hub loose it's mind and three computers acted as if they had a connection and one was working fine, but I couldn't go on line with the three. After setting the new computer with a static IP, it still wouldn't work. I finally powered down the hub an re-powered it and everything worked fine. Did you shut power from your switch and power it back up? Are your boxes using static ip or DHCP?

i think you blew the NIC, try replacing it, or plugging it into a different PCI, etc port on the motherboard

I doubt this will help but I had this exact problem for a month before I figured it out. I had changed the IP address of my dad's computer to that of my computer. I had changed by deleting it in MS-DOS and it automatically aquired my computer's! I tried live cds to no avail.

Maybe it is worth a shot to check out any IP conflicts.

There is no problem so complicated that you cannot find a very simple answer to it if you look at it in the right way

George, you're obviously back online because I've seen you posting in other threads. Do I take it you got things sorted? Or are you coming to us from another O.S.?
