No, no at all. Disable all the services that you don't use

I stopped sendmail...
but does anybody know how to get rid of auth? From all I can tell, it's used by inetd, so I don't know what to do with it...

Probably commenting the auth line in /etc/inetd.conf or /etc/xinitd.conf (or something like that).
